Snow-Clearing for Safety

Snow settling on the ground is a beautiful sight that often brings excitement — but it can also quickly pose a hazard to pedestrians and road users. Clearing snow from walkways, driveways, and entrances helps prevent slips and keeps access safe for everyone.

Your local council may clear public areas, but if snow arrives suddenly, you can act faster by clearing paths yourself — your neighbours will thank you! If you own a ride-on mower, adding a snow plough attachment turns it into an efficient snow-clearing machine.

Fitting the snow plough attachment is simple: remove the mowing unit and attach the mounting frame, which includes a lifting arm, swing arm, and A-frame coupler. Then follow these steps:

Step 1: Prepare Your Ride-on Mower

Switch off the engine, engage the hand brake, and lower the A-frame coupler to its lowest position.

Step 2: Prepare the Snow Plough

Remove the safety pin from the centring bolt above the A-frame coupler by opening the retainer clip and pulling it out.

Step 3: Hitch the Snow Plough

Lift and lower the plough into the two guide rails. The centring bolts should slide into the hitch bore.

STIHL Tip: The snow plough attachment weighs 36 kg — ask someone to assist during installation.

Step 4: Secure the Snow Plough

Reinsert the safety pin through the centring bolt bore to lock the plough in place.

To switch back to summer operation, simply follow the installation steps in reverse. Always ensure the engine is off, and the hand brake is engaged before starting.

The snow plough has two main positions — transport (raised) and operating (on the ground) — adjusted via the mower’s lifting arm. You can also angle the plough left, right, or straight ahead using the A-frame coupler and swing arm controls.
