STIHL's ALLPRO batteries are here: four new AP System packs built on tabless cell technology. We compare them with the AP 300 S, work out who should upgrade and who can wait, and show which charger actually unlocks the 9-minute charge.
If you run STIHL's AP System for a living, the battery is the part of the kit that quietly decides how much work you get done. STIHL's new ALLPRO range is its answer to that: the AP 100.0 P, AP 200.0 P, AP 300.0 P and the connected AP 300.0 PC, all of which fit the AP tools you already own.
The obvious question is whether they're worth buying over the AP 300 S that most professional AP kits currently run on. STIHL's own figures say the gains are real. This guide puts them side by side, flags where the headline numbers need a particular charger or a particular job, and tells you plainly when you shouldn't bother. Every figure comes from STIHL's published data and the product pages on this site.
The Quick Answer
Chainsaws, brushcutters and crews
If you're buying batteries anyway, run power-hungry tools, or lose real time waiting on chargers, the AP 300.0 P is the one to buy, ideally with an AL 1802 MO charger.
Happy AP 300 S owners
If your AP 300 S packs are healthy and you mostly run hedge trimmers and blowers, nothing here is urgent. Replace them with ALLPRO as they wear out.
Lighter work, lighter pack
The AP 100.0 P (0.9 kg) suits hedge trimmers and blowers where weight matters. The AP 200.0 P (1.4 kg) is the all-rounder in between.
ALLPRO AP 300.0 P vs AP 300 S
| Spec | AP 300 S | ALLPRO AP 300.0 P | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Energy content | 281 Wh | 333 Wh | About 20% more |
| Weight | 1.8 kg | 1.9 kg | +0.1 kg |
| Continuous power | Baseline | Up 40% | +40% |
| Peak power | Baseline | Up 60% (4.0 kW) | +60% |
| Charge to 80% (AL 1802 MO) | 15 minutes | 9 minutes | 40% faster |
| Full charge (AL 1802 MO) | 35 minutes | 20 minutes | 15 minutes quicker |
| Charge cycles | Around 1,500 | 3,000 | Double the service life |
| Water protection | IPX4 (splash) | IPX5 (water jets) | One step up |
| STIHL Connected | Supported | Only on the AP 300.0 PC | Choose the PC to keep it |
Percentage changes are STIHL's own comparison of the AP 300.0 P against the outgoing AP 300 S. Charge times assume the AL 1802 MO charger at 25–40°C. AP 300 S figures come from STIHL's published battery data and the AL 1802 MO charging table.
What's Actually Driving the Upgrade
The headline change is the cell. A conventional battery cell pushes all its current through a single small tab, which is a bottleneck: it limits how hard the battery can deliver power and how fast it can take charge, and it turns the difference into heat. ALLPRO Performance batteries use tabless cells, so current flows across a much larger surface inside the cell.
In practice, STIHL gets three things from that. Less resistance means more peak power for dense timber. Less heat means the battery can charge faster without cooking itself. And a cooler-running cell lasts longer, which is where the 3,000-cycle rating comes from. The Performance batteries also carry an IPX5 rating and work from -20°C to +50°C when discharging, so a wet winter site is exactly the job they're designed for.
Where you'd notice it first: chainsaws and brushcutters, where peak power is the limit. On a hedge trimmer or a blower, you'll mostly feel the faster turnaround at the charger rather than any change in how the tool cuts or blows.
Should You Upgrade? An Honest Answer
Upgrade if you…
- Are buying batteries anyway, for a new tool or a new crew member
- Run chainsaws or brushcutters where peak power is the constraint
- Lose meaningful time waiting for batteries and will buy an AL 1802 MO
- Want a battery that lasts roughly twice as many cycles before wearing out
- Work in wet conditions and want the IPX5 rating
Hold off if you…
- Have healthy AP 300 S batteries that already do the job
- Mostly run hedge trimmers and blowers, where power isn't the limit
- Charge on an AL 101 or AL 301, where ALLPRO's charge-speed advantage mostly disappears
- Already run AP 500 S packs (see below)
- Rely on STIHL Connected and don't want to pay for the PC
If you run the AP 500 S, this isn't a capacity upgrade. The AP 500 S holds 337 Wh and weighs 2.0 kg, against 333 Wh and 1.9 kg for the AP 300.0 P. What you'd gain by switching is the extra power, the faster charge (9 minutes to 80% against 15 on the AL 1802 MO), the longer cycle life and the IPX5 rating, not more runtime per charge.
The 9-minute figure needs the right charger. It applies to the AL 1802 MO. On an AL 501 the same battery takes 30 minutes to reach 80%, and on a basic AL 101 it takes nearly four hours. The table below shows every charger.
Which Charger Unlocks the Speed
| Charger | Type | AP 300.0 P: 80% / 100% | RRP inc. VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| AL 1802 MO | Twin outdoor fast charger | 9 / 20 min | £599.00 |
| AL 501 | Single fast charger | 30 / 50 min | £149.00 |
| AL 301 | Single charger | 60 / 90 min | £99.00 |
| AL 301-4 | Four-slot multi charger | 60 / 90 min (sequential) | £319.00 |
| AL 101 | Standard charger | 235 / 330 min | £45.00 |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is an ALLPRO AP 300.0 P worth it if I already own AP 300 S batteries?
Only if something is limiting you. STIHL's figures show about 20% more energy, 40% more continuous power, 60% more peak power and double the cycle life, but a healthy AP 300 S still does its job. The strongest case is when you're buying extra batteries anyway, or when charging time is costing you working hours.
Do I need the AL 1802 MO to benefit from an ALLPRO battery?
No, but you need it for the headline 9-minute charge. ALLPRO batteries work on the AL 501, AL 301, AL 301-4 and AL 101 too. They are just slower: 30 minutes to 80% on the AL 501, and around four hours on the AL 101. If you charge overnight, the charger matters far less.
Is the AP 300.0 P a bigger battery than the AP 500 S?
No. The AP 500 S holds 337 Wh against 333 Wh for the AP 300.0 P. The ALLPRO's advantages over it are power, charging speed, cycle life and water protection, not capacity. For maximum runtime per charge, the two are effectively level.
Which ALLPRO battery should I put on a hedge trimmer?
STIHL's tested working times for the HSA 100 are about 89 minutes on the AP 100.0 P, 180 on the AP 200.0 P and 270 on the AP 300.0 P. The AP 100.0 P is the lightest at 0.9 kg, which suits overhead trimming. If you cut for hours without a break, the AP 200.0 P is the sensible balance.
Which ALLPRO battery is best for a chainsaw?
The AP 300.0 P. STIHL's tested figures for the MSA 220 C-B are 21 minutes on the AP 100.0 P, 27 on the AP 200.0 P and 39 on the AP 300.0 P, and chainsaws are where the extra peak power helps most. Real working time varies with the wood and how you cut.
Can I run ALLPRO and AP 300 S batteries together in one team?
Yes. They all fit the same AP System tools, so you can add ALLPRO packs gradually as older batteries wear out. The AL 1802 MO charges both types, though the faster 9-minute charge only applies to ALLPRO batteries.
I use STIHL Connected to track my batteries. Which ALLPRO should I buy?
The AP 300.0 PC. It has the same 333 Wh capacity and performance as the AP 300.0 P and adds the connected fleet features. The AP 300.0 P and the smaller ALLPRO batteries don't have them, so a team that tracks batteries digitally should choose the PC.
How do ALLPRO batteries cope with a UK winter?
STIHL rates them for discharge from -20°C to +50°C and for charging from -6°C to +50°C, and the Performance batteries are IPX5 rated against water jets. For the fastest charge, the 9-minute figure applies at 25–40°C battery temperature, so expect slower charging on a freezing morning.
