Overview: Pressure Washer Maintenance
Keep your STIHL pressure washer in peak condition with these simple maintenance, cleaning, and winterising tips.
Regular Pressure Washer Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures your pressure washer delivers long-term performance and reliability. After each use, take a few minutes to inspect, clean, and drain the system to prevent damage and ensure it’s ready for next time.
- Clean clogged nozzles with the included nozzle needle.
- Check and clean the water inlet filter regularly.
- Drain water before winter storage.
- Store your pressure washer in a frost-free location, ideally a garage or basement.
Cleaning the Water Inlet Screen
Regularly check the water inlet screen for dirt build-up. Unscrew the water connection nozzle and remove the screen to clean under running water. Once clean, reinsert the screen and screw the nozzle back by hand.
Cleaning or Replacing the Water Filter
To protect your pump from debris, we recommend using a water filter. Disassemble it periodically to rinse under clean water. Grease the seals with fittings grease before reassembly.

Winterising Your Pressure Washer
Before the first frost, drain your pressure washer completely to prevent internal freezing. Follow these steps after your final use in autumn:
- Switch off the power tool and disconnect it from the mains.
- Turn off the water tap and operate the spray gun to release pressure.
- Disconnect the hoses, then briefly run the motor for 3 seconds to expel residual water.
- Store in a frost-free, dry area such as a garage or basement.
Protecting Pressure Washers with Antifreeze
If frost-free storage isn’t possible, protect your washer with a glycol-based antifreeze solution:
- Remove the spray lance and connect a short hose to minimise antifreeze use.
- Prepare and mix the antifreeze following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Dip the hose into the antifreeze container and hold the spray gun lever down.
- Run the washer until a steady antifreeze jet appears, then turn off and disconnect.
Drain any remaining antifreeze back into the container for reuse or disposal in accordance with local regulations.
Inspect Before Storage
Before long-term storage, check that all nozzles, spray lances, and hoses are in perfect condition. Clean any visible dirt and contact us if you find damage or wear.
