Product information & specifications
DMM Fidus 8.5mm Loop - Certified Sewn Loop Anchor - EN 795:2012 Type B - 50–105cm
The DMM Fidus 8.5mm Loop is a certified sewn loop rope tool in 8.5mm polyester cord — positioned between the 6.5mm and 10mm Fidus products in the DMM anchor range. The reduced 8.5mm diameter changes the handling feel compared to the 10mm Eye to Eye, offering improved precision and a lighter weight at equivalent or shorter lengths, while maintaining the same dual certification for straight, basket and choked configurations to EN 795:2012 Type B, and rated for two-person rescue loads under PD CEN/TS 16415:2013 (max 300 kg combined). The sewn loop construction — without a separate eye-to-eye termination — creates a single continuous cord loop that connects at the load point in any of the three certified configurations. Black/White/Grey Fidus cord contrasts with main climbing lines and lanyards. Available in six lengths: 50, 55, 65, 75, 90 and 105 cm, from 75g upward. Gustharts is an authorised DMM dealer.
DMM is a Welsh manufacturer of professional climbing, rigging and work-at-height hardware, based in Llanberis since 1981.
Key Features
- 8.5mm bespoke polyester cord — narrower diameter than the 10mm Eye to Eye; lighter at equivalent lengths; improved handling precision in system setup and adjustment
- Sewn loop construction — continuous single loop with compact stitch termination; connects at the load point in straight, basket or choked configuration without separate eye attachment points
- Certified in three configurations — straight, basket and choked — same three-configuration certification as the 10mm Eye to Eye; the most versatile certification in the Fidus anchor range
- 75g to ~148g depending on length — consistently the lightest Fidus standalone anchor tool at comparable lengths
- Six stocked lengths: 50, 55, 65, 75, 90 and 105 cm — shorter minimum (50 cm) than the 10mm range, covering compact anchor configurations not achievable with the longer-minimum products
- Black/White/Grey Fidus cord — colour and pattern contrast with main climbing lines, lanyards and the 10mm range for quick in-system identification
- EN 795:2012 Type B and PD CEN/TS 16415:2013 certified — 300 kg two-person rescue rated across all three configurations
- UV resistant, durable polyester construction — proven performance over extended service life in outdoor, high-UV environments

Also Known As
The DMM Fidus 8.5mm Loop is also referred to as a certified anchor loop, sewn loop anchor, friction hitch loop, prussik loop, 8.5mm anchor sling and rope tool loop. In some contexts it may be called a Fidus prusik loop due to its suitability as a friction hitch cord at this diameter. For ordering, reference the product code for your chosen length — RPL85-3-BWG-[length] — and confirm the length suffix matches your required loop size.
Complete Your Kit
- DMM Fidus 10mm Eye to Eye — the larger diameter sibling for longer anchor configurations
- DMM Tryggr Thimble — the compact 6.5mm retrievable choking anchor for SRS/SRT
- Climbing Harnesses — required PPE for work positioning systems using these anchors
FAQs
What is the difference between the 8.5mm Loop and the 10mm Eye to Eye?
The 8.5mm Loop uses a sewn loop (single continuous cord) with a narrower 8.5mm diameter, offering a finer handling feel and shorter minimum length (50 cm vs 70 cm). The 10mm Eye to Eye has separate sewn eyes at each end and a heavier cord feel. Both are certified for straight, basket and choked configurations to the same standards.
Can the Fidus 8.5mm Loop be used as a friction hitch cord?
The 8.5mm diameter and loop construction are suitable for friction hitch use alongside appropriate connectors and climbing lines. Confirm compatibility with your specific system and climbing line against DMM's technical documentation before use as a friction hitch.
Is this certified for rescue use?
Yes. PD CEN/TS 16415:2013 certification confirms a 300 kg maximum combined user weight in two-person rescue configuration, across straight, basket and choked configurations.
Which length should I choose?
Length selection depends on the anchor point circumference and required system geometry. The 8.5mm Loop's 50 cm minimum makes it the right choice when a compact, short-loop anchor configuration is needed — where the 70 cm minimum of the 10mm range would be too long. Contact Gustharts if you need guidance on length selection for your specific application.
