FTC Micro-Cylindre 2.1 Rigging Device
The FTC Micro-Cylindre 2.1 is an ultra-compact friction device for rigging lines in tree care work. Designed for minor felling operations, it is used to hold and lower cut branches or logs in a controlled and predictable way, making it an excellent choice for arborists who need a lightweight, efficient lowering system without sacrificing safety.
Weighing only 1.7 kg (device only) and offering an MBS of 40 kN, the Micro-Cylindre delivers a superb strength-to-weight ratio in its class. Supplied ready to install in its storage box, it can be deployed quickly on site: simply open the box, wrap and tension the strap, and you are ready to rig.
Made entirely from aluminium, the Micro-Cylindre dissipates friction without heating excessively or burning ropes. Rubber bumpers keep the device stable on the tree stem, while a compact plate and cylinder design makes it easy to position even where working space is restricted. It is also a smart addition to existing FTC lowering devices as part of a modular, scalable rigging kit.
Key Features
- Compact friction device for controlled lowering in minor felling and branch rigging
- Outstanding strength-to-weight ratio for efficient rigging setups
- All-aluminium construction to minimise heat build-up and reduce rope glazing
- Rubber bumpers help keep the device stable against the trunk
- Top round ring designed for easy reeving of the rigging line
- Dual fairleads keep wraps organised and help prevent overlapping
- Symmetrical design allows the ground worker to stand comfortably on either side
- Delivered ready to install in its own transport box
- Well suited as a standalone friction device or as part of an FTC multi-device rigging system
How It Works
The Micro-Cylindre 2.1 is mounted to the stem using its supplied strap. The rigging rope is then wrapped around the cylinder to create the desired friction. The top ring allows for smooth reeving, while the fairleads manage the wraps and help prevent the rope from riding over itself. This configuration gives the ground worker precise control over lowering speed when handling sections of wood or limb material.

FAQs
What is the FTC Micro-Cylindre 2.1 used for?
It is a compact friction device used in tree care rigging to hold and lower branches or small logs during minor felling and dismantling operations.
What rope size is compatible with the Micro-Cylindre 2.1?
The device is designed for rigging ropes up to a maximum diameter of 14 mm.
Does the device cause heat build-up on the rope?
No. The Micro-Cylindre is made entirely from aluminium, which dissipates heat efficiently and helps prevent rope glazing or burning under normal use.
How is the Micro-Cylindre installed on the tree?
It is secured to the stem using the supplied strap. Once tensioned, the rubber bumpers help keep the device stable, and the rigging line is then wrapped around the cylinder to create friction.
Can it be used alongside other rigging devices?
Yes. It is an excellent complement to larger FTC lowering devices, allowing you to build a flexible, modular rigging system for different job types.
Is it suitable for professional arborists?
Absolutely. Its high strength rating, low weight and compact design make it well suited to professional rigging work where efficiency and control are essential.
